What do the invoice statuses mean?

• Open. Made, not paid yet.
• Paid. The payment has settled. This flips on its own when the money arrives, so you do not mark an invoice paid by hand.
• Canceled. You voided it before it was paid.

A paid invoice cannot be cancelled.
